About Grid Wiz

I created Grid Wiz because I wanted portable sudoku puzzles in a beautiful format without sacrificing puzzle quality and it seemed to be surprisingly hard to find.

It's not at all uncommon to find puzzles labeled “easy” that feel hard, or collections that jump unpredictably between levels, or puzzles with more than one solution.

After I made my first test copy I quickly realised why so many publishers have problems with difficulty classification (I got it all wrong too). There are many easy to use tools out there to make lots of sudoku quickly but they often don't have good quality control to ensure the puzzles have a unique solution and that the difficulty is as expected.

So I manifested my extreme nerdiness and sat down with Claude and set up a system in python for creating, solving, storing and classifying puzzles. I collected puzzles from websites, apps and newspapers and analysed them to come up with a grading system that covers technique usage and other factors that affect the effort and solving experience and to calibrate it to the levels people might expect. It's impossible to do this perfectly of course, because the different sources can vary hugely in classification and everyone experiences each puzzle a bit differently.

That led me into a whole rabbit hole where I discovered there was far more to Sudoku than I had ever realised. I got very interested in solving techniques, which led to me creating the technique tips I include in my books as well as video and slide versions that I create for anyone to access freely on Tiktok (coming soon to other platforms). I really think Sudoku are amazing with so much to offer and I love contributing to help more people enjoy them.

As a solo publisher, the most realistic way for me to publish my books at the moment is using Amazon self-publishing. I have found the print quality to be good in general, but books can sometimes arrive damaged or with other printing defects. If this happens, please use Amazon customer service who should help resolve the issue. If you're not satisfied with any other aspect of the books then please reach out to me, I really appreciate your feedback and will do everything I can to address it.
